Jacqueline “Jackie” Burgess, 90 of Paden City formerly of West Union departed this life on Thursday, April 23, 2020 in Wetzel County Hospital. She was born on October 22, 1929 in West Union a daughter of the late Edgar H. and Grace Mlle Smith Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Harold R. Burgess on April 29, 2003.
Surviving are one daughter, Lya J. Burgess, Paden City; one sister, Janice Ellifritt Cox, West Union; one brother, James J. Jones, Fairfax, VA; sister-in-law, Icy Mae Jones, East Canton, OH; cousin, Dorothy H. Bode, West Union; two nieces and five nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis E. Jones; two brothers, David D. Jones, Edgar S. Jones and one nephew, James B. Jones.
Jackie graduated from Doddridge County High School and received her BA in Elementary Education from Marshall University. She had a Masters in Elementary Education and School Administration from West Virginia University. Jackie retired from the Doddridge County Board of Education with forty plus year’s service as an Elementary School Teacher and served as Assistant Superintendent for seven years. She was a member of Pennsboro Chapter 26 Order of Eastern Star. She attended Paden City Baptist Church.
Private graveside services will be conducted in the West Union Masonic Cemetery with Pastor Chad Ash presiding. The family will have a private viewing in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 56 Front St. on Saturday, April 25, 2020. Expressions of sympathy may be extended to the family at www.spurgeonfunerals.com.
